ManuKind Diapers FAQ
There’s a lot of confusion out there about what’s truly eco-friendly and natural. That’s why we focus on being clear and upfront—so you always know exactly what goes into our products and why. If you have any more questions please contact us here.
What makes ManuKind diapers unique?
ManuKind combines New Zealand–inspired purity with global innovation. From German-engineered biodegradable wetness indicators to premium Japanese absorbent polymers and FSC-certified USA pulp, every detail is carefully chosen to create diapers that are safe, soft, and sustainable.
Are ManuKind diapers biodegradable or compostable?
Like all disposable diapers today, ManuKind diapers are not yet fully biodegradable or compostable. Some performance layers still require non-biodegradable materials. However, we maximize plant-based and biodegradable content while ensuring babies enjoy the softest possible diapers. Our long-term vision is to move closer to a fully biodegradable diaper as technology advances.
What are ManuKind diapers made of?
ManuKind diapers balance softness, safety, and sustainability:
Top Sheet & Back Sheet: Proprietary cotton blend with polypropylene.
Why polypropylene?
Safe – Non-toxic, dermatologically tested, widely used in medical and baby products.
Soft – Fully biodegradable fibers alone can feel rough; polypropylene helps create a silk-like softness for comfort.
Balanced – Used only where needed, so softness is maximized while other layers remain highly biodegradable.
Absorbent Core: FSC-certified wood pulp (USA) with premium Japanese SAP for fast absorption and dryness.
Wetness Indicator: German-engineered and biodegradable, made from natural wax that changes color when wet.
Packaging: 100% recyclable FSC-certified paper bag (UK), sealed with rice-based glue.
Do ManuKind diapers contain chlorine, phthalates, fragrances, latex, parabens, or bleach?
No. ManuKind diapers are completely free from chlorine, phthalates, fragrances, latex, parabens, and bleach. Babies’ skin is extremely delicate, so only safe and tested materials touch it.
Are ManuKind diapers TCF (Totally Chlorine Free) or ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free)?
This is a common—and often misunderstood—question.
Historically, pulp was bleached with Elemental Chlorine, which created toxic dioxins. To eliminate this risk, mills transitioned to ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) bleaching, which uses Chlorine Dioxide—a naturally occurring compound that does not generate dioxins. Chlorine dioxide is even widely used in drinking water treatment for its safety.
At the same time, TCF (Totally Chlorine Free) bleaching was developed in Sweden, using oxygen, ozone, and hydrogen peroxide. TCF also eliminates dioxins but requires more energy and yields less pulp per tree, meaning more wood must be harvested.
ManuKind’s Choice: ECF
Safe – Our pulp is chlorine-free and independently tested for baby safety.
Naturally Based – ECF uses chlorine dioxide, a compound that occurs in nature and is safely used worldwide.
Sustainable – Requires less energy and conserves forests compared to TCF.
Reliable – Over 90% of the world’s pulp supply uses ECF, ensuring stable quality and availability.
We use ECF pulp from FSC-certified USA forests, providing the best balance of safety, softness, and environmental responsibility.
Are both ECF and TCF diapers safe for my baby?
Yes. Both ECF and TCF pulp are completely safe for use in diapers. The debate is about environmental impact, not baby health.
Health & Safety: Both eliminate dioxins. Independent dermatological testing (Dermatest, Germany) confirms ManuKind diapers are hypoallergenic and excellent for sensitive skin. Most human dioxin exposure actually comes from food, not diapers.
Environmental Impact:
TCF – No chlorine compounds but higher energy usage and more harvested wood.
ECF – Uses chlorine dioxide (a natural compound), refined over decades into a clean, efficient process. The European BAT/BREF guidelines recognize ECF and TCF as environmentally equal today.
We chose ECF because it protects babies and better preserves the planet by reducing energy use and conserving forests.
Do ManuKind diapers dry quickly?
Yes. Our proprietary cotton-blend topsheet dries in less than a minute, keeping your baby’s skin dry and comfortable. Independent testing confirms our fast-dry performance, helping reduce rash and irritation.
Are ManuKind diapers hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested?
Yes. ManuKind diapers are Dermatest-certified “Excellent” in Germany, hypoallergenic, and proven safe for sensitive skin.
Do ManuKind diapers have a wetness indicator?
Yes. All diapers include a German-engineered biodegradable wetness indicator that changes color when wet.
What size diaper is right for my baby?
We recommend sizing based on weight. If your baby is between sizes, choose the larger size.
A proper fit means:
Waist snug but not too tight (tabs not overlapping)
Leg cuffs secure with ruffles pulled out
Is poor fit really the most common cause of leaks?
Yes. ManuKind diapers are tested to hold well beyond 40 oz. of liquid, far more than a baby produces overnight. Leaks usually result from incorrect sizing or fit. Ensuring the right size is the key to leak protection.
What kind of ink is used on ManuKind diapers?
All inks are independently tested, food-grade, and safe. We keep designs minimal and focus on performance and safety.
Are ManuKind diapers cruelty free?
Yes. We never conduct or commission animal testing, and we ensure our suppliers follow cruelty-free standards.
Can ManuKind diapers really absorb a large volume without leaking?
Yes. Independent testing confirms ManuKind diapers absorb a significant amount of liquid, making them reliable for overnight use and travel.
Will my baby get diaper rash with ManuKind?
Rashes can be caused by diet, teething, or prolonged wetness. ManuKind helps prevent rash from moisture: our fast-dry topsheet keeps skin dry, and breathable design reduces irritation.
Where are ManuKind diapers made?
ManuKind diapers are designed in New Zealand and responsibly manufactured in China, using globally sourced premium materials such as FSC-certified USA pulp, Japanese SAP, and German-engineered wetness indicators.
Where do ManuKind diaper materials come from?
We carefully source from trusted global partners:
SAP (Super Absorbent Polymers) – Japan
Wetness Indicator – Germany
Core Pulp – USA
Paper Packaging – UK

ManuKind Diapers FAQ
ManuKind Wipes FAQ
What are ManuKind wipes made of?
ManuKind wipes are made with no synthetic ingredients. The cloth is 100% organic bamboo fiber — with no plastic fibers and no wood fibers — giving strength and softness while being fully plant-based.
We offer two varieties:
Goat Milk Wipes – enriched with Caprae Lac (Goat Milk), naturally rich in proteins and fatty acids that help strengthen the skin barrier, maintain hydration, and leave skin feeling smooth and nourished. Goat milk is especially gentle on sensitive skin and helps restore balance when skin feels dry or irritated.
Manuka Honey Wipes – infused with New Zealand Manuka Honey (MG650+), globally recognized for its soothing, calming, and protective qualities. Manuka honey helps reduce redness, lock in moisture, and support skin recovery, making it perfect for delicate and easily irritated baby skin.
Shared Ingredients:
Purified water
Aloe Vera
Hydrolyzed Soy Protein
Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)
Chamomile Flower Extract.
Both varieties are Dermatest-certified “Excellent” in Germany, safe even for the most sensitive skin.
What’s the difference between Goat Milk and Manuka Honey wipes?
Both wipes share the same organic bamboo fiber cloth and base formulation. The difference lies in their hero ingredient:
Goat Milk wipes are designed for deep nourishment and moisture retention, ideal for babies with naturally dry or sensitive skin.
Manuka Honey wipes are crafted for soothing and protective care, perfect for calming irritation, providing gentle antibacterial benefits, and leaving skin comfortably hydrated.
Where are ManuKind wipes made?
ManuKind wipes are proudly developed and manufactured in New Zealand, close to the source of our key ingredients.
Why bamboo fiber instead of bamboo viscose?
Not all bamboo is equal. Many wipes use bamboo viscose, which is processed with harsh chemicals. ManuKind uses 100% natural bamboo fiber, mechanically processed without chemical treatments, preserving bamboo’s true eco-friendly benefits.
What makes ManuKind wipes unique?
ManuKind wipes are transparent about both cloth and liquid ingredients. The cloth is 100% organic bamboo fiber with zero plastic, textured and cross-woven for durability, while the liquid contains only a few safe, plant-based ingredients you can actually pronounce. This combination makes them gentle, effective, and eco-conscious.
Are ManuKind wipes biodegradable or compostable?
Yes. ManuKind wipes are made from 100% plant-based bamboo fiber and are therefore biodegradable and compostable. However, wipes with human feces should not be composted, as they are considered biohazard. Wipes with only urine or general cleaning use may safely compost in proper environments, breaking down within weeks.
Do ManuKind wipes contain bleach or brighteners?
No. Our wipes are not bleached and do not use optical brighteners. The natural bamboo cloth may appear slightly less white compared to conventional wipes — a reassuring sign that no harsh bleaching process was used.
Do ManuKind wipes expire?
Yes. All baby wipes have a shelf life. ManuKind wipes last up to 3 years unopened, with the expiration date printed on the back. Once opened, we recommend using within a month or two, keeping them sealed in a cool, dry place. If wipes dry out, the bamboo cloth may take on a slightly yellow tint — a natural effect of plant-based fibers.
How big and durable are ManuKind wipes?
Each wipe is a generous 8” x 7”, made from textured, cross-woven organic bamboo fiber for strength. Unlike plastic-based wipes that tear easily, ManuKind wipes remain strong in both directions — sturdy enough for life’s biggest messes.
Are ManuKind wipes cruelty free?
Yes. ManuKind is 100% cruelty free. We never test on animals or work with suppliers that do.
